Join Black Girls Do Engineer® for Planetary Futures Lab: Exploring Space & Beyond, an immersive space science and engineering experience designed exclusively for girls in grades 4–8 at Space Center Houston on Saturday, December 5, 2026.
Limited to just 40 girls, this unique experience will take participants beyond the classroom and into an environment dedicated to human space exploration, science, engineering, and discovery.
Through hands-on STEM learning, planetary exploration, interactive experiences, and exposure to STEM professionals, girls will discover the science and technology helping humans explore Earth, the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
Throughout the Planetary Futures Lab, participants will explore different aspects of space science, engineering, and future technology through experiences at Space Center Houston.
The experience is planned to include:
Hands-On STEM Lab — Participate in an interactive STEM activity facilitated by Space Center Houston's education team.
Planetarium Experience — Journey beyond Earth while exploring planets, stars, our solar system, and the universe.
NASA Tram Tour — Explore areas connected to NASA Johnson Space Center and learn more about the people, facilities, and technology behind human spaceflight.
Space & STEM Career Exploration — Discover careers in aerospace engineering, robotics, computer science, planetary science, mission operations, and other fields supporting space exploration.
Participants won't simply hear about space.
They'll have opportunities to explore, experiment, ask questions, solve problems, and experience the world of space exploration firsthand.
The future of space exploration will require more than astronauts.
It will require engineers, scientists, programmers, robotics specialists, doctors, researchers, data scientists, mathematicians, designers, and problem-solvers working together to solve challenges we haven't encountered before.
Planetary Futures Lab introduces girls to these possibilities early.
By bringing girls directly into Space Center Houston for an immersive educational experience, Black Girls Do Engineer® is helping participants connect what they learn in school with the technologies, careers, and discoveries shaping the future.
Girls will be encouraged to think about questions such as:
How will humans live on another planet?
How do robots help us explore places humans can't reach?
How do engineers design technology that can survive in space?
What role could I play in the future of space exploration?
Planetary Futures Lab is intentionally limited to 40 girls in grades 4–8 to create an engaging and interactive learning environment.
Participants may rotate through experiences in smaller groups, allowing them to engage more closely with educators, activities, and Space Center Houston experiences.
Whether a girl already dreams of becoming an aerospace engineer or astronaut—or is simply curious about planets, technology, science, or how things work—she is welcome.
No previous STEM or space experience is required.
